The Ride Experience

πŸŒ„ Delhi to Shimla

A smooth ride to warm up the engines and spirits. The city faded in the mirrors as the pine trees of Shimla welcomed us into the hills. A night halt at Shimla with some hot momos and ginger tea set the tone.

πŸ”οΈ Shimla to Chitkul via Sangla

Narrow roads, gushing Sutlej, and pine canopies marked this stretch. Riding through Baspa Valley into Chitkul β€” the last village on the Indo-Tibetan border β€” felt like arriving at the edge of the world. The stars here didn’t twinkle β€” they danced.

🏞️ Kalpa to Nako to Tabo

This was where the landscape began changing β€” from lush greens to rugged browns. The Nako Lake, surrounded by prayer flags, felt like a pause button on time. By the time we reached Tabo, the cold desert had started revealing its secrets.

Tabo Monastery, over 1000 years old, was a spiritual moment β€” not just architecture, but aura.

πŸ§—β€β™‚οΈ Kaza and Beyond: The Heart of Spiti

Kaza, the capital of Spiti, welcomed us with vibrant flags and dusty roads. We explored the nearby jewels:

  • Hikkim: Sent postcards from the world’s highest post office.
  • Komic: World’s highest motorable village.
  • Langza: Where fossils lie beneath your feet.
  • Key Monastery: A fortress of faith perched high above the valley.
  • Kibber: Where snow leopards prowl, and the night sky feels infinite.

Riding between these remote hamlets was nothing short of otherworldly β€” vast stretches, bone-chilling winds, and complete silence but for the hum of our engines.

🌌 Chandratal: The Moon Lake

Getting to Chandratal was a test β€” of skill and patience. Narrow gravel paths, ice-cold water crossings, and altitude pushed limits. But the reward?

A night under a million stars by the shimmering Chandratal Lake, reflecting moonlight, surrounded by Himalayan silence. It was the most surreal part of the trip.

⛰️ Chandratal to Manali

The infamous Kunzum Pass (4,551 m) gave us both thrills and chills. Snow walls on both sides, tricky descents, and sudden waterfalls tested our stamina. As we reached Rohtang Pass, we knew we were close to “civilization.” Manali felt warm, both literally and emotionally β€” a bath, cafΓ© food, and the thought of what we’d achieved.
